…Residents jittery over outbreak of epidemics
As Nigerians prepare for this year’s Christmas and New year celebration it is doubtful if the people of Ogun state will join in the annual yuletide celebration due to non avalabiility of portable water in Ogun state in the past few months paving the way for the emergence of epidermis and other contaminated water germs.
National Waves investigation revealed that Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital is mostly affected as water scavengers now struggle to scoop contaminated water and at times struggle with cows and other animals for the little available water at semi dry streams scattered around the ancient town.
It would be recalled that cases of out-break of cholera disease was recorded in the city few weeks ago where death of about six victims were recorded.
It was also gathered that the prolonged water shortage compounded by the advent of the dry season is making life unbearable for the packaged water producers and consumers who now travel outside the state to purchase portable water.
Also the situation remains the same in other parts of the state while most of the residents interviewed criticized the state government for doing nothing about the situation while many wondered what would be the situation if this water scarcity should roll into the Christmas and New year.
All attempt to speak with the officials of the state water corporation met a brick wall as nobody was ready to speak with the press on the issue.
