An account holder with the Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), Chinelo Nwagwo, has narrated how the bank sent her Short Message Service (SMS) alert one month after the transaction, notifying her of how two million naira was stolen from her account.

Nwagwo narrated her ordeal to Brekete Family, a human rights radio station in Abuja.

She said “My name is Chinelo Nwagwo, an account holder with the Guaranty Trust Bank, I received an alert notifying me of how the sum of N2 million naira was transferred from my account without my authorisation on 29th of April. Since I didn’t authorise the transaction, I quickly dashed to a branch of the bank to complain. I met one of the Customer’s Service who told me that the money was transferred on March 28 to Auto Strain account, a corporate account which she said does not have a valid address, from where it was moved to Ogbonna and finally moved to First Bank account of Amarachi Emmanuel

She further said that her account officer told her to involve the police to recover her money
“I was told to involve the police to recover my money”

When Nwagwo first appeared on the Brereke Family radio show, she was asked to get the phone number of her account officer which she did.

The host of the show, Ordinary Ahmed Isa called the account officer, one Chidiebere Nwofor who asked the account holder to come to the bank for further investigation.

Efforts by NATIONAL WAVES to speak to the Chief Communication Officer of GTCO Plc, Oyinade Adegite, were fruitless as calls to her line were not answered, and she has yet to respond to a message sent to her on the matter.
