Bandits on Sunday kidnapped five nursing mothers from Yan Kwada village in the Faruruwa area of Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State after they launched a deadly attack on people of the community
Some residents of the area, who spoke to newsmen on Monday, said the attack happened evening when the assailants invaded the village in large numbers, heavily armed, and shooting sporadically.
One of the residents, Musa Sale, said, “The bandits came as usual, shooting and breaking doors. They took five women, including those breastfeeding their babies.”
Reports indicate that two of the kidnapped women have managed to escape, while three remain in captivity.
The attack comes less than a week after military troops clashed with bandits in the same area, killing 19 of them in a joint operation.
Despite the recent military action, the attacks continue to instill fear in communities along the Kano-Katsina border, where residents now live in constant apprehension.
Locals said many villages have been deserted, while others have fled to nearby towns or cities to seek refuge.
