The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested the former governor of Anambra State, Chris Ngige.
He was arrested in Abuja over corruption allegations revolving around laundering of more than N46 billion earmarked for Anambra’s local governments during his time as governor.
The anti graft commission also interrogated Ngige over his activities while overseeing the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) as labour minister.
The rumour mill was agog that Ngige had been kidnapped until his former media aide, Fred Chukwulobe dispelled the rumour and issued a statement to indicate that Ngige ‘has been arrested by the EFCC’.
The statement issued on Wednesday night reads
“I have been receiving calls in the past hour from friends and journalists seeking the veracity of the news making the rounds that His Excellency, Dr. Chris Ngige, former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, ‘has been kidnapped.’”
“There was no abduction, and the former minister is with anti-graft operatives.
“Ngige is with the EFCC. He was not ‘abducted’ or ‘kidnapped’,” he insisted.
