Kaduna-Abuja bound passengers on Monday, February 16, 2026, were left stranded for hours following a fault developed by a train operating on the route near Rijana vilage.
It was gathered that the train which departed Kaduna at about 2:30 pm encountered some technical issues around Rijana, thereby disrupted the scheduled two-and-a-half-hour journey to Abuja.
A passenger on the train told Forefront News on condition anonymity that they suddenly noticed that the train reduced speed and shortly after, it came to a stop.
He further said the technical fault experienced by the train forced it and the passengers to a halt which lasted for several hours as officials were seen making frantic efforts to fix the technical fault and restore operations.
According to him; “Commuters were left waiting anxiously on board even as some expressed fear over insecurity.
However, the Abuja Station Manager of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Mr. Modibbo while confirming the development vis a WhatsApp chat, said that a relief engine had been dispatched from Idu to assist the stalled train.
According to Modibbo; “We have sent a relief engine from Idu right now. It is almost at Jere to proceed with the journey. The train is currently on its way from Kaduna”.
The Railway manager said a passenger had also notified the corporation that the reserve engine was already en route to provide support.
He also said that armed security personnel have been deployed around the train to safeguard passengers, adding that the passengers were calm while waiting for the arrival of the relief engine.
The Abuja–Kaduna rail corridor remains a critical transport link between the Federal Capital Territory and Kaduna State, serving as a preferred option for many commuters amid persistent security concerns along the highway.
