For the second time in two weeks the Yoruba Nollywood industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of actress Atinuke Remilekun Kareem, popularly known as Atinuke Kareem.
According to NATIONAL WAVES findings the actress died after a prolonged battle with breast cancer, despite efforts by colleagues, family members and members of the public to support her treatment.
Kareem’s demise was disclosed in a statement shared on Instagram on Tuesday by Owolabi Ajasa, the Ogun State governor of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN).
Ajasa acknowledged the contributions of those who supported Kareem during her illness, including people who provided financial assistance, prayers and encouragement.
“We sincerely appreciate everyone who contributed financially, offered prayers, encouragement, and support towards the treatment of our dear colleague, ATINUKE REMILEKUN KAREEM.
“Sadly, despite all our efforts and prayers, Atinuke has passed on and answered the final call.
“We cannot question the Almighty God. We can only submit to His will and pray that He grants her eternal rest and gives her family, colleagues, and loved ones the strength to bear this painful lost,” he wrote.
Kareem’s death occurred about four months after she publicly sought financial assistance to help fund her medical treatment.
Following her appeal, colleagues and well-wishers rallied around the actress and contributed towards her care as she continued her fight against the disease.
