No fewer than three persons were killed when a Dangote truck rammed into three cars, killing three persons and injuring one in the process.
The accident which occurred over the weekend very close to the Omega Fire Ministry, Auchi–Okpella–Okene road, in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State involved a Dangote truck and three other vehicles, including a Mercedes GLK.
The Mercedes GLK was said to have been damaged beyond repair.
The truck, which was heading to Benin disrupted traffic in the vicinity.
The deceased were identified as two males and one female.
The Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Cyril Mathew, who confirmed the incident, attributed it to brake failure.
Mathew said: “The truck had a brake failure, and in the process, rammed into three vehicles, killing three persons and injuring one.”
According to him: “Six persons were involved in the accident, three died including two male and one female adults while two others escaped unhurt. Four people were in the Mercedes, three of them died and one injured.”
He called on truck drivers to ensure proper maintenance of their vehicles and to be more conscious of other road users by avoiding overspeeding, so that when mechanical issues arise, the vehicles can be more easily controlled to safety.
