A suspected military helicopter crashed on Monday afternoon in Igbokoda, the headquarters of the Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, leaving its occupants and crew members feared dead.

The tragic incident occurred directly opposite the Naval Base in Igbokoda, sending shockwaves through the local community.

According to local eyewitnesses, the aircraft came down during a heavy downpour. Residents reported hearing a sudden, thunder-like sound before discovering that a helicopter had plunged into the swampy terrain nearby.

The impact of the crash caused a severe fire, reducing the aircraft to an unrecognizable state of rubble.

While the exact number of passengers and crew on board has not yet been officially verified, military gear was recovered from the debris, raising severe concerns that there are no survivors.

Confirming the incident to journalists, the Executive Chairman of the Ilaje Local Government Area, Mr. Maurice Oripelaye, stated that emergency teams and security personnel have been mobilized to the crash site.

The Ondo State Police Command has also acknowledged the incident. Police Spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, stated that the command is actively making inquiries into the disaster and will release an official statement as soon as more concrete details are established.

This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as official details from emergency management agencies and military authorities emerge.
