1. Early Life and Childhood*
Chief Yussuf Saheed Aderemi, popularly known as Yussuf Joe, was born on 4th December 1965 at Adeoyo Hospital, Ibadan to parents from the Olubodun family of Kanike area in Ibadanland. His childhood days were rascally and very naughty.

2. Boxing Career – First Love*
His first love was boxing, inspired by Cassius Clay [Muhammad Ali]. He joined DBAKOSO Boxing Promotion in 1978 and later fought in Atiba Hall in Oyo Township, Ogbomoso and Akure. It was a memorable night that paraded seasoned pugilists like the great Hogan Jimoh, Lati Darason (Fela Kuti band member), Samson Popoola, Mighty Dodo and Alimi Dodo, his sparring partner. Boxing became an unfulfilled ambition for young Yussuf Joe due to his father’s strong detest for boxing as a career. During the Atiba Hall bout, Yussuf Joe engaged in a brief sparring with Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, Alaafin of Oyo, at the place as a mark of inspiration.

3. Acting and Theatre*
Yussuf’s flair for acting was exhibited at Ansar-Ur-Deen Primary School, Lawanson, Surulere, Lagos where he stole the show with his Sango mystic performance. He was inspired by Duro Ladipo (OBAKOSO) who had the history of exhaling fire from his mouth like the Sango deity. He played the role of Sango to the admiration of the audience at the school’s valedictory service in 1978. He acted as a guest actor with Babatunde Omidina (Baba Suwe) in one of his stage performances during secondary schools tours at Pobo Community Grammar School, Poka-Epe (Now Pobuna). He participated in the debating, cultural and Drama group alongside veteran thespian, Doyin Hassan.

Following his passing out from secondary school and while awaiting admission into higher school, his regular visits to NTA Channel 10, Lagos alongside Doyin Hassan further exposed him to various programs like YOUTH SCENE, TALES BY MOONLIGHT, The Village Headmaster, etc.

He was a crew member of NTA NIFEST movie presentation “The Reign of Abiku” by Tade Ogidan featuring Lanre Balogun and Omotara Sanusi. It was a training ground associating with professionals like Tade Ogidan, Rowland Henshaw, Gbenga Richards, Lola Fani-Kayode, Tunde Kelani, Bayo Aladesuyi, Bayo Jimoh, etc.

Followed by TA NI OLE featuring Dele Odule. He also played the role of a Lawyer in Arakangudu’s IBUKUN in 1996.
