Venezuela Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez

Venezuela Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez has emerged as the interim president of the country.
This is as the Venezuela’s Supreme Court named her as the country’s interim president following the arrest and removal of Presidebnt Nicolás Maduro by the United States.
In a ruling issued late Saturday, the court directed Rodríguez to take over presidential duties in an acting role to ensure continuity of government and protect national sovereignty.
The court said Rodríguez would exercise all powers and responsibilities of the president while it considers the legal framework needed to manage the country in the absence of Maduro.
The decision came hours after US President Donald Trump confirmed that American forces had seized Maduro and flown him out of Venezuela. Trump later said the United States would oversee Venezuela temporarily until a leadership transition is arranged.
Speaking at his Mar a Lago residence, Trump said the US would manage the country to ensure a proper transition, adding that American oil companies would be deployed to repair Venezuela’s oil infrastructure. He also said the existing US embargo on Venezuelan oil remains in place and that US forces would stay on alert.
Trump did not provide clear details on how the US planned to run the country despite the presence of Venezuela’s vice president, legislature and military, all of whom have publicly opposed the US action.
Reports said a plane carrying Maduro landed at Stewart Airport in New York State on Saturday evening. He is expected to face legal proceedings in the United States.
The development has further intensified political tension as Venezuela’s institutions move to assert authority while the United States presses ahead with its intervention plans.
