The build-up to the 2027 general elections in Nigeria is taking many twists and turns as political actors and gladiators align and realign their interests for one elective office or the other.

The coal city of Enugu, Enugu State, the political capital of South East Nigeria, came to a standstill on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, as Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party Presidential Candidate in the 2023 general election, officially pitched tent with the African Democratic Congress, ADC, before a mammoth crowd of party officials and supporters from across Nigeria.

A spectacular and significant take away from Peter Obi declaration for the ADC was the announcement by Aisha Yesufu, an unrepentant member of the Obidient Movement that she would be actively involved in partisan party politics, while pledging allegiance to the ADC.

To all intents and purposes, Aisha Yesufu is a popular and familiar name renowned for championing the cause of the oppressed masses of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Over the years, she has been a rallying point and pathfinder for justice, equity, and fairness in every sphere and strata of the Nigerian society. Take it or leave it, Aisha Yesufu can best be described as the conscience of the Nigerian masses.

She has never be known to be a card carrying member of any political party; however, she has been at the forefront of galvanizing support for the presidential aspiration of Peter Obi, based on his pedigree and political sagacity in public service.

That she has thrown her hat and taken a fray into the murky waters of Nigerian politics, marks a major event in the politics and democratic governance in our match towards the 2027 general election.

No doubt, her formal declaration for the ADC is a quantum boost for one of Nigeria’s fledging opposition parties whose gladiators and activities have taken the Nigerian political space by storm.

The political space in Nigeria, going forward, will definitely not remain the same as Aisha Yesufu bold and decisive declaration is bound to recalibrate the political process.

It’s certain that her new status as a partisan politician portends well for the advancement of women’s participation in politics in particular and constitutional democracy in general.

Let’s welcome the diva, the masses conscience to the Nigerian political turf.
