Four months after the minister of aviation and aerospace development, Festus Keyamo, inaugurated the Enugu Air, the Enugu State owned airline has experienced a fault with its nose-landing gear while arriving at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport from Lagos.
This much was confirmed by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
FAAN, in a statement signed by Henry Agbebire, its director of public affairs and consumer protection, said the incident occurred at about 19:10 hrs on Thursday during landing on runway eight at the airport.
The authority said the aircraft, with the registration number SN-BZN, became immobile on the runway shortly after landing.
“Emergency response teams were immediately mobilised and were on scene to ensure the safety of occupants and to secure the aerodrome,” the authority said.
“FAAN’s airport emergency resources, including fire tenders and medical standby, were deployed as standard procedure.
“All passengers and crew were safely disembarked and evacuated to the terminal, using the Apron buses. Evacuation was completed without injury and concluded at 19:48 hrs.”
FAAN said its aerodrome rescue and firefighting services (ARFFS) were in position while the aircraft and airside were secured.
The agency said its top priority is the safety of passengers, crew, and other airport users, and promised to provide public updates as soon as authoritative information becomes available.
