At least four residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja have lost their lives as floods ravaged Trademore Estate and others.

The FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) carried out rescue operations between September 12 and 13.

The intervention followed Sunday’s heavy rainfall at Trademoore, Light Gold, Wisdom Estates, and the Lugbe community.

“Four persons lost their lives to the floods. The bodies have been taken away by family members for burial”, FEMA Director-General, Abbas Idriss said.

More than 26 vehicles, including an articulated towing van, were swept away.

Also, 166 houses were affected in Trademoore Estate while a tarred road was completely washed off.

FEMA noted that it is estimating the losses suffered by property owners and residents.

Idriss conveyed the sympathies of FCT Minister, Muhammed Bello to the residents and families of the deceased.

The official begged landlords and developers to desist from violating the approved building codes.

“We are appealing to them to stop erecting retention walls. By doing so, they are causing more havoc to the community,“ he said.

As the rainy season enters the final phase and its peak, Idriss advised residents to avoid dumping refuse in drainages.
