How Gov. Uduaghan Motivated Okagbare to Win Two Gold Medals and a Silver

Olympics Day 7 - Athletics

This is good news coming the way of Nigeria through sport as Blessing Okagbare, won gold in the women’s 100m and 200m at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. She did not stop there she also won a silver when her relay team came second in a 400metres relay.

Okagbare is the 11th athlete in the history of the Commonwealth Games who has won both the 100 and the 200 metres.

Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare added the Commonwealth 200m crown to the 100m title she won at the Commonweaith Games.

It was an effortless win for the Nigerian athlete who had no difficulty racing to the finish line in a triumphant victory.

Okagbare won the race in 22.25 seconds despite slowing down towards the end of the race.

She was dominant as expected, using her blistering leg speed.

Okagbare would have competed in the long jump event but it clashed with her 200m, so she chose the latter over the former.

Source informed National WAVES that Okagbare was so ecstatic about the development that she dedicated her medals to Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan who was one of the spectators when she won the 100metres gold. National WAVES learnt that Udaghan has been a pillar of support to the athlete. He has supported her in terms of logistic and also supported her financially.
