Angry youths and residents of Lafiagi in the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State have stormed out in protest over the growing wave of terrorist attacks, kidnappings, and killings plaguing their communities,

The enraged youths, mostly locals fed up with the government’s silence and inaction, stormed the streets on Monday morning, demanding an end to the bloodshed and abductions.

Videos and photos obtained by SaharaReporters show the protesters setting ablaze the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) office in Lafiagi, and invading the palace of the Emir of Lafiagi, where several windows and parts of the structure were vandalised.

“We have been crying and dying in silence,” said a resident

“People are being kidnapped every week. We don’t sleep with our two eyes closed anymore, and nobody, not the governor, not the chairman, not even the Emir, is doing anything about it.”

The resident who confirmed the development described the protest as a result of bottled-up anger over repeated terrorist invasions.

“The youths are tired, and no tangible actions are coming from the government. Our chairman and the governor are not willing to help us,” the resident said. “The attacks are getting more intense; this is why the youth protested today.”

The source added: “Protesters went to the Emir’s palace and stormed some offices belonging to security agencies. The NDLEA office was torched.”

Lafiagi and surrounding villages have witnessed multiple abductions in recent weeks, with many victims still in captivity and families forced to pay heavy ransoms.

SaharaReporters had reported the abduction of three residents taken in two separate attacks in the last 12 hours.

The latest victims are a popular Point of Sale (POS) agent identified as Yman, who was kidnapped Sunday night in Lafiagi town, and two Hausa men who were taken in the early hours of Monday, June 30, 2025, during a violent raid on Kokodo village.

A third person, a young girl, narrowly escaped capture after fleeing into nearby bushes.

Community sources confirmed the incidents, describing a climate of worsening insecurity and helplessness in Kwara North.

“The attacks are becoming too rampant. The POS guy was kidnapped on Sunday evening, and now, this morning, the two other people, who are Hausa, were also kidnapped this Monday morning,” a source squealed.

“As we speak, nobody has heard from the kidnappers. But the vigilantes and the security operatives have been briefed, and they are currently working on their rescue,” he added.

These developments come barely a day after SaharaReporters reported the news of the abduction of a prominent agro-chemical dealer, popularly known as Alhaji Chemical, in Lafiagi town.

The victim was reportedly kidnapped from his residence in the Taiwo area of the town around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday by heavily armed men suspected to be Fulani bandits.

Eyewitness accounts suggest the attackers, who arrived on motorcycles, overpowered the local vigilantes guarding the area with superior firepower before whisking Alhaji Chemical away to an unknown destination.
