Some Nigerians have appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene as the price of refilling a 12.5kg cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, LPG, also known as cooking gas, has increased to N25,000 from N13,500

NATIONAL WAVES gathered that the price of 1kg currently retails at between N1, 500 and N2, 000, depending on the location.

Mrs Olubisi Damiro told NATIONAL WAVES that she combed some parts of Lagos throughout the weekend in a bid to fill her 12.5kg cylinder but most of the plants were shut down due to unavailability of the product.

“What’s going on in this country, I wanted to fill my cylinder but to my greatest surprise I couldn’t because all the plants I went to were shut down because they dont have gas. This is saddening. Those at the helms of affairs should intervene” said Oludamiro.

“Angela Amefula could not hold back her tears while speaking to our correspondent over her inability to get gas “As you can see I’m in tears, my children did not have dinner yesterday because there was no gas in my cylinder to prepare thier meal. I have two children, a boy and a girl, they went to bed without food on account of scarcity of gas. As I speak to you, I have not been able to procure gas. I will have to look for an alternative probably get wood to make fire to prepare thier meal today (Sunday). President Bola Tinubu should do the needful by ensuring whatever is the problem is resolved to ensure gas is available at affordable rate”

Hajiya Amina Dankabo who lives in the Agege area of Lagos State lamented that gas is unavailable in her area. I have searched for gas in Agege, all to no avail. I’m sick and tired of this country”

Mr. Wale Ogunsakin said he has moved from one place to another in search of gas but couldn’t get to buy.

A dependable source informed
NATIONAL WAVES that the distribution of the product was disrupted by the recent industrial action by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN over its dispute with Dangote Refinery.
“I can tell you for free that
Dangote Petroleum Refinery is currently the highest local supplier of cooking gas in Nigeria. The crisis involving PENGASSAN scuttled distribution. Many dealers could not replenish their stocks during the period.

The source added that the scacity is as a result of the dispute between PENGASSAN and Dangote Refinery but assured consumers that normalcy would soon be restored as the strike has since been called off.
