A certified International Security Expert, Dr Jackson Lekan Ojo has called on Nigerians to condemn and not to celebrate the alleged coup plot against the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Though the Nigerian military authorities have debunked the alleged coup attempt, the story is still making waves across the country following the arrest of some military officers and the raid on the private resident of former governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva.
Dr Ojo condemned the alleged coup plot and declared that there is nothing to applaud or celebrate when a democratically elected government is violently overthrown.
He also called on media houses not to give their platforms to those who are celebrating the alleged coup attempt.
His words: “Concerning the coup plot we are talking about, a lot of Nigerians do not know the danger in violently taking over power.
“We have rights as citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to change the government through our voters card.
“Nothing is acceptable, there is no excuse, there is no condition that would warrant violent change in government.
“I think it is condemnable, it is not globally acceptable and I want to call on Nigerians that nobody should celebrate either it is true or false.
“It is not a situation where Nigerians should be jubilant. Over what?
“The government that Nigerians voted in place and some people wanted to change the government violently and we are celebrating it?
“I want to advise the media houses, both print and electronic, nobody should accept any voice that is sort of celebrating the purported coup attempt.
“There is nothing to be happy about, there is nothing to jubilate about. It is our government, the government of the people for the people and by the people.
“Let Nigerians forget about the performance, whatever the performance it is the government we put in place and there is no one that shall violently want to change the government that we should be happy about.
“It is condemnable and it is not something we should celebrate at all. No media house should accept any voice that is celebrating the purported coup attempt.”
