Super Eagles of Nigeria have defeated Benin Republic 4-0 in the 2026 World Cup Qualifier match played in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
With this defeat, the Super Eagles have qualified for the playoff round of the African qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals.
The Super Eagles are now third on the mini-league to determine the best four losers to feature in the intercontinental playoffs.
In the log for the best loser, Gabon, who still have a game in hand tonight, are on top, followed by Cameroon and Nigeria, while Burkina Faso are fourth.
Victor Osimhen stood out among the pack as he was in electrifying form, firing a hat-trick as the Super Eagles of Nigeria defeat the Benin Republic
Osimhen spearheaded Nigeria’s attack with his trademark pace, power, and clinical finishing, tearing through the Beninese defence to secure all three points for the Eagles.
Although the goals were not enough to give Nigeria the qualification ticket, as leaders, South Africa secured three points by beating Rwanda 3-0, qualifying for the World Cup tournament in the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico in 2026.
