The Nigeria Police Force will resume the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy on January 2, 2026.

This is according to a statement issued on December 15, 2025 and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin.

The police stated the enforcement will checkmate the rising security concerns and the need to curb criminal activities.

The police clarified that no court order had restrained it from enforcing existing laws on the use of tinted glass on vehicles. However, enforcement was earlier suspended to give motorists sufficient time to regularise their documentation and complete registration without undue pressure.

The Police noted that recent security trends show an increase in crimes committed with vehicles fitted with unauthorised tinted glass, which criminals use to conceal their identities while carrying out offences such as armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.

According to the statement, the decision to resume enforcement became necessary to address the growing abuse and proactively safeguard lives and property across the country.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, assured Nigerians that the renewed enforcement would be conducted professionally, with respect for citizens’ rights and in strict compliance with the law. He reiterated the Force’s commitment to public safety, the rule of law, and collaboration with stakeholders to keep the country secure.

Motorists who require tinted glass permits have been advised to apply through approved channels and ensure full compliance with legal requirements.
