President Bola Tinubu stumbles at Turkey official reception

Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu lost his footings and slided unintentionally during a welcome ceremony in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
The incident occurred as Tinubu walked alongside his Turkish counterpart, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Tinubu appeared to have missed his step but was quickly supported by aides and protocol officials, allowing him to regain his balance.
Reacting to the development, the president’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, confirmed in a post on X that the Nigerian leader “missed his step very briefly” and has since continued his schedule without disruption.
Olusegun stated that the president went on to hold bilateral meetings with Erdoaan at the Presidential Palace in Ankara, with a live joint press conference scheduled to take place immediately after the talks.
“Mr President missed his step very briefly and has continued his bilateral meetings with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. A live press conference is happening immediately after the bilateral,” he wrote.
