Lauretta Onochie, a former chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and one of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s aides, has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for extending the tenure of the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi.
Adeniyi’s retirement was scheduled for this August, marking 35 years of service since he joined the service in August 1990.
According to media reports, the next in line in Customs after Adeniyi is DCG BU Nwafor, who hails from Anambra State. Her retirement from service, according to the reports, is October 2026, when she must have reached the age of 60.

Reacting to a post on X which accuses President Tinubu of depriving Nwafor of the opportunity of becoming the Customs Comptroller General, Lauretta Onochie listed several reasons Nwafor was deprived of the job, with a particular emphasis on her state of origin, which she wrote in capital letters.
She posted, “Under Pres. @officialABAT, nothing is in her favour
1. She’s a woman
2. She has no husband in the villa
3. She has no boyfriend in the Villa
4. She has no brother in the Villa
5. She Is Not from Bourdillon
6. No Governor’s backing
7. SHE IS FROM ANAMBRA
This is Tinubu’s Nigeria.”
