Nigerian afrobeat singer Joel Amadi, popularly known as Joe El, has narrated how he sustained a fractured ankle after being attacked at a birthday party hosted by the owner of SH Hotels in Oshodi, Lagos.

Joe El, in an interview with SaharaReporters on Sunday, alleged that the hotel owner ordered bouncers to prevent him from leaving the event, which led to the violent incident.

Joe El said, “It happened in Oshodi, Lagos at a birthday function where I was attacked by some bouncers and while I was being chased, I sustained a fractured ankle.

“The bouncers were ordered by the celebrant, who is the owner of SH Hotels in Oshodi, not to allow me to leave the premises. That was how the chaos started.”

Following the injury in March, Joe El had surgery in Lagos, but discovered it was not correctly done.

He was then referred to Dalla Orthopedic Hospital in Kano for a second surgery in July, which was successful.

“Now the doctors said I will need to stay home for another 8-9 months to recover before returning to the stage,” he said.

The singer added that although his pain has reduced, the recovery process has been challenging.

“Challenges, I’m soliciting for financial support to enable me to recover for the 8-9 months that I will be off show, because it has not been easy since March, following the incident,” he said.

Friends and colleagues have called on the public to support Joe El during this challenging period.

“We regret to inform you that our dear friend and colleague, Joel Amadi, was recently involved in an accident,” said a statement issued by DNC Greatness on behalf of DNC Group Limited.

“At this time, he needs our collective support to help him recover and get back on his feet.”

Singer Joe El rose to greater prominence with his award-winning track “Bakololo,” which enjoyed heavy rotation on Nigerian radio stations between 2011 and 2012. He also released other notable songs, including “Love Song” and “Happy.”

Due to their striking facial resemblance, he is frequently compared to Nigerian music icon 2Baba (also known as 2Face Idibia or TuFace).

In 2014, he publicly expressed his admiration for 2Baba and his desire to collaborate with him.

That same year, Joe El released the music video for “Hold On,” featuring 2Baba — marking a significant moment in his career.
