Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga has disclosed how the abducted Oyo pupils and teachers were rescued by security operatives.
He revealed this in a follow-up post on his verified X account on Friday, shortly after announcing the release of the abducted pupils and teachers.
He also stated that no concessions were made to the terrorists to secure their freedom.
Also a former operative of the Department of State Services (DSS), Seyi Adetayo, stated that security agencies relied on intelligence rather than ransom payment or a prisoner exchange to secure their freedom after 56 days in captivity.
Adetayo made the disclosures during an interview on TVC on Friday night, where he shed light on the tactics employed by security operatives in the operation that culminated in the victims’ rescue.
According to him, security agencies painstakingly identified the kidnappers’ network, including their relatives, close associates and logistics channels, before moving to weaken the criminal gang.
“They identified the kidnappers’ mothers, wives, children and close associates. They arrested them, recorded videos and sent them to the abductors,” Adetayo said during the interview.
He explained that investigators also tracked the kidnappers’ movements, disrupted their supply chain and intelligence network, and blocked their escape routes, making it increasingly difficult for the gang to sustain its operations.
According to the former DSS operative, the sustained pressure mounted by security agencies eventually forced the abductors into a position where the victims could be rescued without any ransom being paid or prisoners exchanged.
NATIONAL WAVES reports that Onanuga earlier disclosed that pupils and teachers from Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota schools, Oyo State regained freedom from bandits captivity.
