EDITORIAL: Why Imo North electorate should vote Araraume at the general elections

Senator Ifeanyi Araraume

The victory of distinguished Senator Ifeanyi Araraume at the recently concluded Senatorial Primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a ringing testament to his widespread acceptance among stakeholders of the party not only in Imo North but at the national level of the party.

For us at NATIONAL WAVES, the confirmation of Araraume’s political stature as a statesman of goodwill had come earlier when the nanagement of this newspaper bestowed on him the Life Time Achievement Award two years ago.

We join the Imo North constituents to congratulate Senator Araraume for this earned victory.
We are deeply convinced that his contribution to the development of Imo state and Imo North Senatorial District can not be oversized.
He more than deserves to return to the Senate to represent his people given his contributions.

Senator Araraume is no pushover being a career politician. His history in politics began in the 1990s. He served as State Treasurer for Liberal Convention in old Imo State between 1988 and 1989. He joined National Finance Committee of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) created by former military dictator General Ibrahim Babangida from 1990 to 1993, and as Chairman, NRC Presidential Primaries for Kwara and Delta States. He was the pioneer State Chairman of the defunct All People’s Party (APP); later All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in Imo State (1998 – 1999).

He was elected to the Senate representing Imo North (Okigwe) constituency of Imo State, Nigeria in 1999 under the platform of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and was re-elected in 2003. During his tenure as a Senator, he served in Senate committees; he was the Chair of the Senate committee on Power and Steel, Vice Chairman of the Senate committee on Culture and Tourism, Vice Chairman of the Senate committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chairman Public Hearing committee for South-West zone on amendments to the 1999 Constitution, member of the National Assembly Joint Constitution Review Committee (JCRC) and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts. He was Chairman of the Southern Senators’ Forum.

For a politician and business man of stature and standing in politics as enunciated above, it’s only fiting that he should return to the Senate – being the most qualified – to continue to give his people worthy representation.

APC members and supporters across Imo North Senatorial District turned out in large numbers to back Senator Ifeanyi Araraume as the party’s candidate for the 2027 general elections.

The affirmation took place simultaneously in all the wards of the district, with party faithful participating enthusiastically.

It’s our considered opinion that the turnout reflected the people’s confidence in their shared goal for progress, inclusion, and development in Imo North.

His chain of successful businesses and his efforts to empower the youth over the years stand him in good stead to represent his people.

On bestowing the Life Time Achievement Award on Araraume, the publisher/editor-in-chief of National Waves Newspaper and Magazine, Jimmy Enyeh, said the award was given on account of his sterling achievements in politics and business. Enyeh added that while the astute politician was in the Senate, he impacted positively on the people of Imo North (Okigwe) Senatorial District by sponsoring people’s oriented bills, some of which were passed into law, and his philanthropic gesture and ability to touch the lives of the needy vis-a- vis empowering youths and extending scholarship to students.

Apart from being member of many boards, he has flourished in private business. No wonder, The National Waves publisher stated that Araraume’s business acumen was exceptional
“Senator Araraume has performed excellently well in the business sector through Exclusive Stores and other flourishing companies and this made him a role model to many people”

A man of such outstanding achievement deserves to return to the Senate to continue to deliver dividends of democracy to his people.
