Rotary Club of Maryland Counsels Youths on Conflict-free Society

Rotary Club of Maryland has advised the youths to look beyond the vices that are now rampant in society and work towards a conflict-free and peaceful society.

Rtn, Moruf Bidemi Bello, Vice-President of the club gave the charge in his remarks during a lecture organised by Rotary Club of Maryland in conjunction with the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators as part of activities marking the Rotary month of Peace Building and Conflict Prevention.

At the event which held at Community High School, Mende, Maryland, Rtn Bello noted that with proper orientation and exposure to peacebuilding and conflict prevention strategies, violent deaths such as the incident in private schools based in Lekki and Abuja could be avoidable and other negative effects on the psyche of the youths such shortcut to wealth and rituals for money could be erased.

The guest speaker, Shola Oshodi-John, Registrar/CEO of Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators, said the aim of the lecture is to educate the young ones on how to resolve issues among themselves so as to promote peaceful co-existence in our communities.

According to her, “we counselled the students not to resort to physical combats or verbal attacks to settle disputes.

The chairman of the club’s Peace Building and Conflict Prevention committee, Rtn. Rawlings Emefiele noted that the club chose to organise the lecture for the youths so as to checkmate the growing of vices such as cultism and other bad influences in elementary and secondary schools.
