News emanating from Katsina indicate that troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, have successfully rescued the widow of the former Director of Defence Information, Major General Rabe Abubakar, Mrs. Amina Abubakar, from bandits’ captivity following a coordinated rescue operation.

Mrs. Abubakar was abducted alongside her husband by armed bandits a few weeks ago.

General Abubakar later died in captivity

The Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, disclosed on Monday that the rescue was achieved through sustained search-and-rescue operations conducted by troops of Operation FASAN YAMMA.

According to him, troops intensified offensive operations against criminal elements and mounted sustained pressure on the bandits, leading to contact with the kidnappers at Tunga Village.

The military spokesperson said the operation culminated in the successful recovery of Mrs. Abubakar.

“In the course of the encounter, the bandits shot Mrs. Abubakar before abandoning her and fleeing due to the overwhelming pressure from advancing troops,” Major General Uba stated.

He explained that the rescued victim was immediately evacuated from the area and transported to a military medical facility for urgent treatment.
