Senator Ned Nwoko
Governance is a call to public service, not a call to private ownership. What we are witnessing, increasingly, in Delta North today is the quiet normalization of the privatization of power and the fetishism thereof; a dangerous drift where access to opportunity and leadership becomes the preserve of a few, determined by the approval of a single private citizen. To some of us, this is a question of democratic sanity. Hence, I write not out of sentiment or sycophancy, but from careful observation and an insistence on rational choice. That said, good people of Delta North, I present to you nine reasons why Distinguished Senator Ned Nwoko must return to the Senate.
1. Access
In governance, access is not a luxury. It should not be. Anything otherwise is false standard. Access rather, is the foundation of representation. A common man can access Ned, or even reach out through his private phone number, which he has made public, by the way. You can have Ned’s attention when you need to because he is an approachable senator. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for the other man now being projected to you. You will not have access to gather in his house, randomly walk into his office to make demands, or even pay a simple courtesy visit. You cannot dial his number and expect it to be picked. Or can you, a common man who is about to lead yourself into temptation, truly access the person you are bandwagoning yourself into supporting? You know, deep within your heart, that you will not have access, and you will not have the voice to complain, lest you be singled out and blacklisted. That access will be reserved for a small, biscuit-cycle coterie of benefactors. You stand no chance. You know this. So why dwell in self-sabotage? My friend, stand up and go where you are seen, recognized, and given access as a bonafide stakeholder of the senatorial district. You need to take yourself more seriously come 2027.
2. Power Must Be Reclaimable
Give power to a person you may democratically take it back from, not to a person whom, your fear-induced loyalty would not allow you reclaim it when the need arises. Resist the urge to allow bandwagonism without conviction become the driving force of your 2027 decision, rather than genuine belief in a person and the need for results for Delta North. Choose a leadership you can question. Choose a leadership you can challenge. Above all, choose a leadership you can change when the moment demands it.
3. Previous Giant Strides
Senator Ned Nwoko spearheaded investigations into the London and Paris Club loans for Nigeria and the 774 Local Government Councils, resulting in a landmark court judgment of US$3.2 billion. In the same period, he recovered over US$18 billion for Nigerian states, marking one of the most significant milestones in fiscal accountability and economic recovery in Nigeria’s history. This speaks to his attention to detail, a critical skill for a legislator per excellence. One man, Ned, saw what the entire country did not see, identified the solution, informed the country’s leadership, took action, and delivered results. It speaks to capacity. Some people do not understand the magnitude of this effort—no, you truly do not. Till today, some states have not been able to pay him, and some could go bankrupt if they attempted to settle fully. That tells you the volume of effort and outcome achieved by a then young, vibrant, result-oriented lawyer. Yet, he remains patient while still being owed. This further speaks to his thoughtfulness in placing state and national interest above personal comfort. This is the kind of legislator you need. You don’t even need me to remind you.
4. Breaking the Cycle of Godfatherism
Delta North must make a clear decision: continue recycling power within the same circle, or finally break free from it. Godfatherism thrives when influence does not retire with office. It creates a system where leadership is no longer about service, but about control and continuity at all costs. Even more concerning is what happens when stepping away from office becomes uncomfortable. Leadership should never become so central to one individual that a short period outside of it creates urgency to return at all costs. The Senate, in particular, demands caution. It is one of the few positions without strict limits, where influence, once re-established, can be prolonged indefinitely. Handing that kind of unlimited platform to someone who couldn’t stay comfortable for just a few years outside power is dangerous. It only tightens a grip that will be much harder to loosen later. No one should become so embedded in the political system that stepping away feels unnatural and staying out becomes impossible.
5. The Question of “Retirement Politics”
How do you subject yourself to fear a man so much that you cannot speak, lest you lose your current position. You must praise, endorse, and even suppress your own ambition. You are sad, but you can’t help it. Fear holds you bound, yet Stockholm syndrome convinces you it is love. Are you sure deep down that your motivating factor is love and not fear? Now you are pushing that same figure into the Senate- an institution often described as a retirement home for politicians. Have you paused to consider the implications? I’ll help you here. You are literally supporting someone who may have no intention of leaving again, to access that office. Since he left there, his mind never left. Every successor becomes a perceived usurper automatically. It happens with Nwaoboshi, it is happening with Ned. You can’t tell me you want that same man him back into the senate. Again, are you aware he is planning to retire there permanently? Where then is your chance as a political citizen? If this happens, then neither you, nor your fathers would see that seat because it would be “colobied” permanently as pidgin English variation best describes. Is that what you want? Tell me, do you really want a senate seat allocated indefinitely to one man as lifetime settlement, or you want a senate seat open for fair contest for all both now and in the future?
6. Accountability Without Fear
The scorecard, transparency, and accountability you demand from Senator Ned, are you bold enough to demand it from the opponent they are projecting to you? I differ, and I do not beg to. What do the facts suggest? The last time when as a governor, his youngest appointee published their secret dealings, he was suspended, forced to retract, and made to apologize publicly. So, the question remains: can you be allowed to truly demand accountability from him, or will fear make you shout hallelujah and move on? You know this script as much as we are familiar with it. So why not choose a leader you can question without fear, demand transparency from without intimidation, and hold accountable without risking your political survival or voice as a citizen of Delta North, to say the least?
7. Philanthropy
I will not dwell so much on the obvious. Distinguished Senator Ned has written his name in the sands of time through philanthropy. The blind can see it, the deaf can hear it, we are all witnesses to them. Good works sell themselves that’s why Garri needs no advert. Senator Prince Ned has empowered people consistently and tangibly. This is not your usual abstract rhetoric. On the basis of this, IT IS TIME for you to empower him to continue empowering you. His win is your win. My dears, go where you are loved and cared for, not where you are tolerated and live in fear.
8. Integrity
The Distinguished Senator Ned Nwoko has no criminal records trailing him. No criminal conviction whatsoever. Unfortunately, his opponent cannot boast of the same for himself. In a country where such clarity is increasingly rare, this matters. Integrity is gold, you no fit pick am for tarred road. Take the Paris Club refund issue. This was a high-stakes, highly scrutinized matter involving huge sums and direct dealings with the Federal Government. Up till today, the government is still owing him over $60 million. If there was anything questionable, anything at all that could be used against him, it would have been exploited long ago. So when you find someone who has operated at that level, handled sensitive financial matters, been exposed to that level of scrutiny, and still stands without a criminal record, it is not something to gloss over. It is something to value.
9. Legislative Strides
The first duty of a legislator is lawmaking. At this juncture, Senator Ned’s record is clear and strides outstanding. He has sponsored over 34 bills and 20 motions aimed at improving the district, state, region, and nation. 19 bills have passed first reading, 4 have passed second reading, and 2 have advanced to public hearing stage. I speak categorically without shaking like a celestial prophet. This is not conjecture, it is publicly verifiable. Go and verify.
This is the part where I say, If you need a representative who carries the capacity, integrity and wholesome personality that Delta North needs to thrive, then Distinguished Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko brings all of these and more to the table. I affirm in the strongest terms ever, that he is the practical embodiment of them all. Look no further. People of Delta North, 2027 is serious business, but not business as usual. Treat it accordingly. Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko deserves to return to the Senate.
