Amid rumours making the rounds that Senator Ifeanyi Araraume stepped down from contesting the All Progressives Congress (APC) Imo North senatorial primary, he has won the primary
Araraume, a three term senator’s emergence has triggered renewed discussion on internal party alignment, grassroots mobilisation, and disputed claims surrounding withdrawals from the contest.
Party sources described the outcome as reflecting established political structures across the 54 wards in the district, where voting patterns reportedly consolidated around long-standing networks rather than newly formed alliances. The result has been interpreted within party circles as evidence of continuity in local political organisation.
However, the process has also been accompanied by competing narratives, particularly allegations that Araraume had stepped down prior to the exercise.
The office of Senator Ifeanyi Araraume Communications Desk, Ugwumba Villa, Isiebu- Isiala Mbano has dismissed the claims, insisting he did not attend or participate in any meeting where he stepped down.
Within the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, discussions have continued over the implications of the primary, especially in relation to reconciliation among aspirants and the management of post-primary tensions ahead of the general election cycle.
Supporters of Araraume argue that the outcome reflects familiarity and long-term engagement within the district, while others within the party stated that internal consultations will be necessary to consolidate support going forward. Observers note that the contest has further highlighted the importance of established political structures in shaping delegate behaviour across Imo North.
Attention has now shifted to how the party will manage its internal cohesion following the primary, as stakeholders weigh the balance between experience, loyalty networks, and emerging political interests in the district’s representation at the National Assembly.
