Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Delta State All Progressives Congress is literally swimming in a pool of crisis.

So bad is the situation that some key party leaders and founding senior members of the party in the state stayed away from the APC State Congress held on Tuesday at the Cenotaph in Asaba Delta State.

NATIONAL WAVES learnt that among those absent were former Deputy Senate President and ex-senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Ovie Omo-Agege, Senator Ned Nwoko representing Delta North Senatorial District in the Senate.

Also absent was Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, member representing the Ethiope Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and daughter of former Governor James Ibori among other founding leaders.

Feelers from the Abuja, the seat of power indicate that President Bola Tinubu is not happy with the development and had told Governor Sherrif Oborevwori to carry every member of the party along in the scheme of things.

Presidency source informed this newspaper that the president has his reservation on why the Delta APC is allowed to break into factions, with one bloc loyal to the Ibori/Omo-Agege camp and another aligned with the state governor, Sheriff Oborevwori.

In Delta North, the division is said to involve one faction loyal to the immediate past governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, and another aligned with Senator Ned Nwoko.

The crisis in Delta APC is linked to allegations of imposition of candidates during the ward, local government, and state congresses, allegedly in favour of members of the defunct PDP who recently defected to the APC.

Speaking on Saturday shortly after the State APC Congress held at the Cenotaph in Asaba, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori called for unity and peace among party members.

However, he added, “Anyone who did not come for this State Congress is not an indigene of Delta State.”

Chief Solomon Arenyeka emerged as the new State Chairman at the congress while Elder Moses Iduh was elected Deputy Chairman.
Chief Efe Uko emerged as State Secretary.

Also elected through consensus were; Chief Paulinus Akpeki as Delta Central Chairman, Chief Emmanuel Amgbaduba as Delta South Chairman, Engr. Daniel Ossai as Delta North Chairman, Elder Emmanuel Egbabor as State Organising Secretary, Barr. Valentine Onojeghuo as State Publicity Secretary, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Sobotie as State Woman Leader and Christopher Agali as State Youth Leader, among others.
