Juju Scare: Magistrate Abandons Seat

Drama ensued at a Gwagwa Area Court on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 as the presiding head of the Court; His Worship Mohammed Suleiman raised an alarm over the strange sprinkling of substances suspected to have been done by the unknown person to frighten the Magistrate from discharging his constitutional duties.

The suspected substances sprinkled on the official seat and table of the presiding Magistrate as well as on the floor of the open court according to the Magistrate was not there when he first entered his chambers through the open court. He said he was the first person to enter the court room that particular day before other users. The substance which was sprinkled in cross form looks like the usual Holy Oil used by most Christians when praying.

His Worship Mohammed Suleiman who addressed the court for over an hour on the issue queried “who sprinkled this in the open court? Who might have done this? I am not afraid of any body and I am not afraid to die but I know nobody has the power to kill me because that person did not create me. You also here today, do not believe that somebody that did not create you can kill you. After all, both the maker of the juju and the person he wants to kill, all must die one day”, he noted.

He further advised, “If you are doing good continue, and if you choose to do bad continue too, but one day each and every one of us must appear before the presence of Almighty God to answer for our deeds when we were on earth”. He said, “After all any person who is up to 65 years of age should be afraid to die, even when newly born children also die when they do not know what is called sin”, emphasizing that anything after 65 years of age for everyone is a privilege from God and not ones right. He condemned in strong terms those who believe they can use charms to get what they want in his court, warning that the court will not tolerate such ugly incident again.

His Worship Mohammed Suleiman who vacated his official seat for another, however ordered the court cleaner to clean his table and mob the floor of the court where the suspected substances were sprinkled. It will be recalled that the Magistrate was to continue on that particular day, with an on-going case of suspected ritual practices in his court. The matter which was adjourned earlier for opening of defence was however adjourned to October 12, 2015 to enable the new law in the Judiciary that every criminal case in the country should henceforth be handled by government trained lawyers alone instead of the usual police prosecutors.
